Righteous Principle: Religious Liberty & Freedom
Supporting Scriptures:
On Righteous Governance and Leadership
Proverbs 29:2 – "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan."
Proverbs 14:34 – "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."
Psalm 33:12 – "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance."
On the Duty to Occupy and Influence Culture
Matthew 5:13-14 – "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden."
On Standing Boldly in the Face of Restriction
Acts 5:29 – "But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: 'We ought to obey God rather than men.'" (Context: The apostles refusing a legal order by the authorities to stop preaching in public).
Daniel 6:10 – "When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously."
Hebrews 10:23, 25 – "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful... not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." (Context: Written to heavily persecuted believers who were tempted to stop gathering publicly out of fear).
protection of our religious liberty & freedom is woven into our nation’s foundation and is critical to our future.
At the forefront of each principle is the scripture to back it up and the freedom to express it.
Our First Amendment isn't just a political document; it is a shield for the liberties God has given us.
Within the Bill of Rights, we are granted five core freedoms that serve as the bedrock of our society:
Freedom of Religion: The state cannot establish a national religion or dictate how we practice our faith.
Freedom of Speech: The right to speak our minds and share our convictions free from state censorship.
Freedom of the Press: The liberty for journalists and individuals to publish truth and opinions safely.
Freedom to Assemble: The right to gather peacefully in public spaces for fellowship, worship, and rallies.
Freedom to Petition: The power of citizens to request legal change, right wrongs, and appeal directly to the government.
We must understand that the right to petition heavily influences the other four freedoms. Through legal codification and political persuasion, the definitions of protected speech and religious liberty are constantly being shaped. Without Kingdom-minded leaders holding public office, the world culture will rewrite what is legally permissible. As believers, we are called to stand on absolute, uncompromised Biblical truth. If we remain passive, opposing ideologies will step into the vacuum and erode these very protections.
Despite prevailing modern narratives, historical records show that this nation was founded on Christian principles. For instance, historians note that all 13 original American colonies incorporated religious declarations or oaths as prerequisites for holding public office. [1]
Today, two and a half centuries later, we face a deeply fractured culture. We see increasing tension surrounding Christian public prayer and worship, which are sometimes restricted under the guise of "public safety," regulated by legal "buffer zones," or labeled as “divisive speech”.
Now more than ever, the Church must stand in unified defense of our constitutional right to pray, worship, and proclaim the Word of God in both public and private settings. The preservation of our foundational liberties depends entirely on our willingness to engage, vote, and defend them.
